Here is a preview.
Photos by Steve Stedman.
Now there's just a fine piece of photography. Actually, the second pic is really great! I like the light and the layout. Though your sunsets were the best, I think :)
You have a good eye for composition with colors and texture. These photographs are rich and warm.
I really like the first photo - the crab adds a nice bit of color, and really brigtens the whole image. Its quite pretty!
I like both pics....you can tell you definitely have an eye for photography. I like the one with the crab and the surroundings are very colorful and show a little bit of the natural life around it. The other pics says vision and what a nice effect with the color on the trees...great work.
I agree with the other comments, excellent interesting pictures. The both are studies in contrast... Tidepool more geometric contrast with the shoreline tree more contrasting colors.
I can't think of the name of this special tree but its bark is like paper and the surface is very smooth.
I think the subjects you've chosen for both of these are very good, but the composition needs work. I'm a pretty cruddy photographer so I can't really offer any specific suggestions on how to make them better, but these lack the balance, vibrancy and appeal that many of your other photos have.
I'm looking forward to seeing more, you've got some great photos here.
BTW, my previous comment refers to the previews you posted above, 'Crab' and 'Madrona Tree2', many of the other images in the gallery are quite good.
"Orcas Island View" is good, but I would have tried to get just a little more sky into it. "Clark Island" is also good, but I'd like to see more off the water off-frame to the right. "Patos Island Sunset" I really like, but again, I'd like to see a little more sky.
I don't mean to sound like I'm being negative (ha, so punny), these are really good photos, you have a good eye for picking subjects.
The first picture really reminds me of how much I love going to the tidepools. You can almost smell the ocean and feel the air, and it's such a good photo it looks like the crab is just about to move. Lovely work.
Wow - that is the funkiest crab I have ever seen! I would love and go see these islands myself.
Beautiful pictures. You must have a sight to clip such pics.
I really love the first picture! The combination of coulours and figures is great. The second pic is nice too...
Looks like a beautiful place! Makes me want to go sit under that tree and watch the water! Excellent colors on the first photo.
To be honest, I'm not really big on the picture of the rocks. When I first pulled it up, it looked like a kidney or something. Aside from the kidney, I'm just trying to decide what it was you photographed that you want me to focus on. Is it the white rock or the leaf? Basically, I'm asking myself, "what did he see here that he wants me to see?" Sorry if this is offensive...just being subjective.
that's a shore crab in the first picture. they have quite a strong nip for such a small creature. I used to live right on the beach in vancouver island. it looks just the same.
anyone know what type of tree that is in the lower picture?
You should be a photographer for the State of Washington tourism bureau. The colorful crab, the green of the plants, and the wet rocks in the first picture are very enticing. The second picture, with the trees, puts the Northern Pacific Ocean scene into perspective. You should be a photographer for the State of Washington tourism bureau. I especially like the second photograph. I wonder what kind of tree that is? The first photo is nice, but crustaceans kind of freak me out!!
I like the first one. I like the limpids on the right side. The tree picture makes me want to move to the right to see around the tree, like it's in my way. If I had to choose between the two for "wallpaper" I would choose the crab.
Wow, I didn't even know there were San Juan Islands in Washington State. You're really good with color. How do you make the orange stand out like that?
I grew up every summer going to the San Juan Islands. Boy, those photos brought back some memories. Good job, they are gorgeous!
I like your photo's, especially the firs. It has lots of color, the only thing wrong about it, is the shadow on the left. You could try to crop it. It's a pity that in the second photo there is so much contrast in the ground (and tree etc) but so little in the sky. You can try to fix this by playing with contrast and highlight sliders in your photo editing program.
What gorgeous photos! I wish I had talent like yours, I'm too snap-happy!
Very nice pictures that you have taken here. I like the crab. Go on.
These Pics Are Amazing. Exactly When Did You Go? I Would Like To Go Somewhere Like This. I Aspire To Be A Photography And These Would Be Great Shots. Kudos.
I love these two photos, and would like to have them as art, hanging side-by-side. The reds really play off of each other.
Wonderful, Amazing, Excellent pictures. What else could be said for such eye-catching, natural look photos, hats-off to your indepth and inborn talent. Should bookmark this site to view upcoming photos in future. ALL THE BEST for your future. Keep It Going Like This Ever.
Photos have even lighting and though, of natural objects, appear hightened in realism. Makes you wish you were there and not here.
Wow, they're really pretty. I especially like the first one with the crab and other natural objects - it's a nice composition, I think.
I really like the composition of the second photo. The use of shadow with the backlit tree is very striking.
What a great red tree! I'd like to live under that tree.
I really liked how colorful and exciting these pictures are. I also think you did a great job drawing our attention to the correct places.
I really like these two pictures. Especially the red tree, the picture is haunting. The red stands out so much. I'd never heard of the San Juan Islands before.
I love the tree it is beautiful! You are very talented. The colors in the first photo are incredible.
I love the one with the Red tree. When I lived in Flordia, I had one simalar in my yard. I wish I could remember what it was called, but the coloring in your pic is Beautiful.
wow, simply astounding how you reach that great balance of color and contrast. a fine piece of inspiring art!
I love the top picture with the crab. I know it's nature, but it looks like a recipe for chef at first glance.
I love the San Juans! That 2nd photos is great!
THese are pretty pictured. They remind me of sci fi movies.
The tree picture reminded me a trip I once made in Finland, during summer, lots of green, red and water.
The brub reminded me bob sponge.
Aww that crab is so cute ^^
I have absolutely no knowledge about photography. I don't know about colors, balance, lighting, any of these things. I just know about photos and what's pictured in them. And I like the crab and trees.
I love the vibrant colors of the crab and it's surrounding. The second photo of the tree makes me want to go and see if the tree is really such a rich color.
Very nicely composed photo of the tree. Can't say why it speaks to me - it just does. Maybe it's the soft lighting, or the background. The image has power. Nice job.
That crab is really cool looking. I also like the photo of the sunset, it is beautiful. You are a very good photographer.
The first picture scared me a little, because I wasn't sure of what it was at first glance. Looking more closely, I really liked it. It's so random and natural and colorful!!
Your photos are so beautiful,it makes me want to be there. Great composition and exposure.
Wow, can I just say that the pictures of these islands look like they were taken on another world, the colours are so vivid its almost unreal. very beautiful.
The second pic is great.colors are vibrant and lightning is good.Mother nature is really amazing.
On the second photo, the colors really pop out and contrast nicely with the water. Of the two, it's my favorite, but the first isn't bad either. It just seems a little bit too busy to really draw the viewer in.
I turned away right as the page was first loading and caught only a glimpse of the first picture. In my mind I saw a high school biology experiment of a dissection of something. Upon a good look, though, I realized what it was. It's quite the composition, I'll say.
I liked th crab photo with stones surrounded.
And tree photo with river background is simply awesome.
I absolutely love the photograph of the tree. The lines and color of the tree are amazing. I would really like to know what kind of tree that is.
These photos are great examples of "capturing beauty". When I studied these photos, I sensed balance and harmony. Beautifully done.
That was a nice gallery. Keep up the good work dude.
The first photo is a very interesting example of the crab in its natural habitat. The picture of the red tree has a surreal quality about it.
The knotty red trees are very vibrant and eyecatching. It looks like an oasis in the middle of a dry and empty place.
I really like the pics and the crab photo the best. It is a good top angle and helps to be able to compare the size of the crab to the shells and other things around it. The color is also really nice.
I really love the first picture! The combination of coulours and figures is great. The second pic is nice too...

I had no idea there were islands in Washington State. These pictures are amazing, I love the crab!
Beautiful pictures! I love the natural setting and the lighting!
What is it? I cannot even tell what the conglomeration is in the first photo! But hanks for sharing your world.

Both photos are very beautiful! I never knew that Washington State possed such beauty! I thought the state was all trees! lol
I LOVE these -- unusual, and not traditionally "pretty", but, oh, so beautiful! I also downloaded the "Orcas Island View" for my desktop, because it makes me feel happy and serene.
I love the second photo! I've never been to the San Juan Islands, but I've been to Washington and Oregon and loved every moment. It's such a beautiful part of the country and I imagine it must be a photographer's paradise!
The colors are absolutely incredible! Particularly in the first picture with the crab. Each individual item in the picture stands on its own because of the contrast in colors!
There's something remarkably sexy about that second photo. Perhaps it's the colours, or the lines, but you have a very good eye for form and composition.
The photos are beautiful.
However, if you keep offering so many perfect photos, people will be hard pressed to choose one for their computer.
I love BOTH of the sunset photos....have to skip the crab one, as I don't like seafood, etc..
Also, the planes are intriguing and I probably would want one of those photos!
What kind of crab is that? I took a marine biology class over the summer and it looks familiar but I can't think of the name!
Nice color on these photos. The problem with the crab shot is that there are too many competing elements of similar size. I'm not sure what to focus on.
I love the two photos from San Juan. I have never seen a tree that color before; it almost looks like it could be from another planet! I also love how the color of the crab and the tree complement each other
You take gorgeous pictures! You must have taken a class or something.Either that or it is just so beautiful there that it's impossible to take a bad photo!Either way great job and thanks for offering them to the public free!
The crab photo is awesome, it gives a real sense of nature. The colors couldn't have worked better if it had been staged.
The crab photo is quite interesting. I hadn't even noticed it was a crab until the second time I looked at it. I thought it was a colored rock. The tree is beautiful. It's color and location make for a great photo opportunity.
I love the San Juan Islands and have been there a few times being from Washington. These pictures capture it well. Madrona trees are my favorite tree.
What beautiful pictures! I love the colors that you have captured. The tree in the second picture is the most beautiful image I have seen!
I love the 2nd photo. I instantly fell in love with the contrasting color and the whole feel of the picture. I took a similar picture to this back in the winter with this red looking branch that was growing out of the dead winter ground. This picture instantl reminded me of it!
Those are absolutely gorgeous. Another reason to add Washington State on my list of places to visit before I die - just beautiful.
Look at the crab! It's so cute! Anyway, I actually really like these pictures. You have a god eye for composition.
These pictures are great. I love the little crab! The close shot is amazing!
The crab looks awesome.. The way you have taken picture, shows your skill and your professionalism towards photography..The rock shines like a silver in the sun.. Crab in between silver bars.. The scenary is captured in such a way that, the tree blocks some light and appears less bright than the water areas.. looks great.. You have a great taste.. Hat's off..
That crab is pretty neat. Would only be better if it were on a plate with sever of his friends. I like the lighting on the second photo.
I love the picture of the red tree. It looks like a very peaceful place to sit and relax.
I live near the San Juans and grew up traveling there during the summers. I remember hunting the beaches looking for crabs like that. Well done!
These photos seem much less cliche than the sunsets which, although beautiful, are a bit overdone. The tree in this second photo almost seems surreal and I wonder if it is a trick of the light or some kind of natural occurance where the tree is always that color. The crab in the first photo is almost comical and seems to make the photograph less dead-nature oriented and more life oriented.
This is a very good photo. I like how you captured the moment. Particularly, I like how the colors pop out. Excellent work.
Wow!! I live in Florida, and would never believe there were any kind of islands in Washington State! I love both these pics. Different shades of orange and brown happen to be my favorites, and also green, and you have captured them all in these two pics. Is that the actual color of the bark of the tree, or some type of light reflecting from it, or something you did with the photograph yourself? Nevertheless, it's beautiful! Makes me want to curl up under it and take a nap :-)
