Here is the photo that I have on my desktop right now.
So here are the quick instructions to use any of the pictures in the gallery for your background image.
1. Visit the gallery to browse the pictures. http://freephotos.stevestedman.com/gallery The link will open in a new window.
2. Find the picture that you want to use for your background.
3. Click through on the picture and choose the size of image that is closest or larger than your screen resolution. If you don't know your screen resolution just use the largest size image.
4. When you are viewing the image that you want to use for your background in the browser, right click on the image (from Internet Explorer or Firefox), and choose the popup menu item to set this image as your background image.
Thats all that needs to be done to use any of the pictures in the gallery for your background photo.
Just remember that these are all my original photos, and that I am making them freely available to anyone to use as long as they follow a few simple rules.

Steve, I like your work and think the site is a great idea but I'm finding it hard to navigate easily. I don't really see too many photos and the descriptions of them aren't always specific enough for me to understand exactly what it is I'm seeing!
This is an awesome photo! My 3 yr old daughter was all excited today because the forecast gave snow for us and she's never experienced a big snow. When I showed her this picture, she immediately looked up at her daddy, "Can you please make it snow like this for me?" I'm for sure making this my desktop picture.

This is an awesome photo, I love the snow. The location is very beautiful. It reminds me of going to ski and snowboard. I enjoy winter/snow sports so this is a very fitting picture for my background.

i love getting brackgrounds for my pc i have haveing just a plain screen. i work on my pc all day and it is nice to see somethig cool on it.

I love your photos, and I would like to use them as background. However I have a dual monitor set up (two horizontal monitors) -- can you provide some photos that are longer? I think the ratio of width to hight should be 2:1.
Looking through the gallery, my favorite photo would probably have to be the snow covered trees under the British Columbia folder. While I could do without the skiers in the shot, the trees look absolutely amazing. One of my favorite things to do during winter is to take a late night walk during a storm when everybody else is inside and there are no cars on the road. Seeing fresh, white snow covering everything (though not as much as in your photo!) is always beautiful.
I am forever changing out my desktop picture. I do a lot of things from my computer, so I get tired of looking at the same thing every few days. I'll definitely keep a link to your pictures for future usage!

Your pictures are beautiful. The snow picture would make an excellent desktop picture because it doesn't have bright colors so looking at it won't hurt your eyes. And it would be easy to see your desktop icons.
